ERIC CARR – HAPPY BIRTHDAY – REST IN PEACE – FROM THE VAULT

Support:   Today’s From The Vault is dedicated to Paul Charles Caravello, better known as KISS drummer Eric Carr, who passed away 24 years ago in 1991 from cancer. Eric would have celebrated his 65th birthday yesterday (July 12). Carr, who was born in East New York and had been involved in several bands, sent in his audition tape after Peter Criss had left the band, in a bright orange folder to make it stand out. At the audition, Eric asked if the other members of KISS would autograph the list of KISS songs he was asked to play in case he didn’t see them again. The rest is history, although the band didn’t exactly tell him he had gotten the gig. Paul Stanley had revealed in a later interview that they told him that they were playing in two weeks. Carr made his debut with KISS in 1980 on a show called Kids Are People Too and the band performed their first show with Carr at the Palladium in July of 1980. Originally Carr wanted to use the stage persona of The Hawk, however the makeup was not easy to recreate in greasepaint and the stage costume was a bright orange yellow, which Paul Stanley had noted made him look like Big Bird. The hawk idea was shelved and Eric came up with his fox makeup a few weeks before his debut. His stage name came after he had originally considered using Rusty Blade which Simmons didn’t really want him to use. He shortened his last name and used Eric from a list of names his girlfriend had...

KISS – MUSIC FROM THE ELDER

Support: Today’s post bring us back to 1981 to the ninth studio album by KISS titled Music From “The Elder”. This was the last album to mark the appearance of guitarist Ace Frehely and the first time that  KISS did not tour to support the album. KISS made a handful of public appearances to promote the album including an appearance on the late-night variety show called Fridays (performing “A World Without Heroes”, “I” and “The Oath”), on Solid Gold (performing “A World Without Heroes” where you can actually see a tear run down Gene’s face in the video and “I”), and a lip synched performance of “I” from Studio 54 broadcast via satellite to the Sanremo Festival in Italy.  Ace Frehley was absent for the Studio 54 appearance, so KISS performed the song as a trio. The album’s story involves the recruitment and training of a young hero (Boy) by the Council of Elders who belong to the Order of the Rose, a mysterious group with the sole purpose of fighting evil. The hero is guided by Morpheous, an elderly caretaker who guides the Boy to overcome his doubts and become confident and self assured . The last song on the album “I” contains a passage in which Morpheus declares to the Elders that the Boy is ready to undertake his odessey. Often I hear differences of opinion from KISS fans about Music from “The Elder”.  Some seem to like it, others think it’s the worst album KISS has ever made and even Gene Simmons and Paul Stanely have admitted they may have not thought this album out thoroughly. WEEKLY ROUNDUP

WEEKLY ROUNDUP

Support: Today is the first day of December and the official start of the holiday season. Let’s start the month with the latest in the metal community.   KISS PLAYS MACY’S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE Last Thursday (11/27), KISS performed at Macy’s 88th Annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. There was a lot of talk after the performance however, including frontman, Paul Stanley tweeting that the band was screwed over and fans saying the band missed their lines when lip syncing their classic hit, Rock and Roll All Night. Gene however, told Page Six of The New York Post that he was proud to be a part of the parade and did everything he could to keep his tongue in his cheek. Check the performance out for yourself below:     DAVE MUSTAINE’S MOTHER-IN-LAW’S BODY FOUND   Megadeth frontman, Dave Mustaine’s 73 year old mother-in-law, Sally Estabrook, who has been missing since October 4th, was found dead by a maintenance worker last Wednesday (November 26th). Our condolences to Dave and his family for their loss.   FORMER LILLIAN AXE GUITARIST PASSES AWAY Jon Ster, who was one of the original members of the 80’s band Lillian Axe passed away this past weekend. MY TOP 5 METAL BANDS OF ALL TIME

MY TOP 5 METAL BANDS OF ALL TIME

Support: Often when hanging out with friends, we get into debates about who we think are the greatest singers, bands, musicians..etc of all time. You see Top 5 lists and quite often I find very similar favorites, but I often find many differences as well. This led me to think about how my favorites ranked. For this post, I chose my top 5 bands of all time which are as follows: JUDAS PRIEST     What can you say about the “Metal Gods” that hasn’t already been said. Their style, music and attitude have influenced both musicians and fans alike. Through it all (line up changes/internal band difficulties), Judas Priest have stood the test of time and etched their place in heavy metal history and in my metal world, there is no one who even comes close to Priest. KISS Say what you will about KISS and especially Gene Simmons! I personally have said I need to put their music down for a bit, however my head will still bop every time I hear one of their songs. There is no denying that KISS will live on in infamy forever. Great music, great makeup and one of the best stage shows you’ll ever see, KISS not only created great music, but have also created a merchandising empire that is second to none. They definitely know how to Rock n’ Roll all night and party everyday! Gene may have a big mouth but there is no question, their music will live on forever!! SLAYER Go to any metal club or show and you will often see at least one person...

GENE SIMMONS – SHUT THE FUCK UP!

GENE SIMMONS – SHUT THE FUCK UP!

Support: Originally when I planned to write this post I was going to write about how I felt that KISS had become the biggest joke in the world, however due to some computer glitches, my post never made it up and I was going to post the original article today. That all changed however with the death of Robin Williams. As we were all saddened by his death, it is even sadder to realize that someone who brought so much laughter to people’s lives, struggled finding happiness in his own life that he felt he couldn’t go on. After the media confirmed how he had died, there were so many different posts all over social media about him. While some were sweet and touching tributes, there were also some very mean comments, which really made me angry. Some said he should go fuck himself and that he was a coward. To me, that is nothing but sheer ignorance and obviously people who don’t understand what depression can really do to a person. However, this post isn’t about Robin Williams, it’s about Gene Simmons and his ignorance on the topic of depression and basically everything else he expresses his opinions about. Before I continue, let me start off by saying that the title of this post may make you think I don’t like KISS or hate Gene and I have put all my stuff up on eBay to sell to KISS Collectors, but that’s not the case. I love KISS. When I was a kid I had seen the commercials on TV for the action figures, lunch boxes, comic books,...

BLACK ‘N BLUE – HOLD ON TO 18 – FROM THE VAULT

Support: Today we take a trip back to 1984 to the self titled debut album by Black ‘n Blue and the song Hold on to 18. Originally formed in Portland, Oregon by childhood friends Jamie St. James and future KISS guitarist Tommy Thayer, Hold on to 18 received substantial airplay on the radio and on MTV and led Black ‘n Blue to release 3 additional albums, before their break-up in 1989. The albums, Nasty, Nasty and In Heat were produced by Gene Simmons. Black ‘n Blue reunited a few times and the band is still on the scene today. They released their 5th studio album, Hell Yeah in 2011 and have more plans for touring in the future. Support: Have you seen these yet?
