A NATION DIVIDED AGAINST BABYMETAL CAN NOT STAND

Support: Since I have an office job, I spend a considerable amount of time gazing thoughtfully into my Facebook feed. Apparently, BABYMETAL, the awesome J-pop death metal fusion band fronted by three teenage girls, was featured on USA Today recently, so people who wouldn’t ordinarily be exposed to them are now getting a big old taste of adorable aggression. My friend mentioned BABYMETAL to me the other day, and I expressed my (positive) opinion of them. He added, “I find the gender statements involved kind of amazing.” I replied, nonplussed, “Gender statements? like, in their songs?” He explained that the fact that they’ve taken metal and warped it by babygirlifying (my word, not his) it pushes the boundaries and calls into question the very nature of metal itself. My reaction? “I just thought their music was fun and good and enjoyable.” He’s right though! BABYMETAL has some people scratching their heads, some tapping their toes, and more than a few vomiting their guts out. Here are my favorite reactions so far (unsourced because I want to keep my Facebook friends): “I don’t care, I dig it!” “This could be [used] as a form of torture.” “Choreographed dance routines is not metal” “The song form [of recent single “Megitsune“] is so generic it makes Hannah Montana seem intricate and complex.” “You metalheads take everything so seriously. Babymetal is adorable!” I strongly suspect that there’s a heaping helping of sexism embedded in the loudest protests against BABYMETAL, especially since popular but woefully generic male-dominated bands like Steel Panther go unchecked. BABYMETAL isn’t brutal, nor is it trve, nor is it kvlt,...

Support: Motley Crue singer Vince Neil underwent surgery to remove kidney stones after the band were forced to cut their Sydney, Australia show short to rush Vince to the hospital. Nikki Sixx tweeted and posted on his Facebook that Vince had successfully undergone surgery to remove kidney stones and was doing well. Sixx explained that Neil was doubled over just before showtime, and that the promoter told him not to try and perform but Vince said he couldn’t do that to the fans. Nikki elaborated by saying: “I’ve seen Vinnie go onstage with broken bones, his voice completely blown out and torn ligaments but he never ever cancels…Just like an athlete you sometimes have to play through the pain but last night it became too excruciating.” Neil tweeted from his hospital bed his thanks to the fans and hospital staff for all the well wishes and prayers and is on the mend. CHARIOTS OF THE GODS – MATHIEU ST-AMOUR INTERVIEW

CHARIOTS OF THE GODS – MATHIEU ST-AMOUR INTERVIEW

Support: HearEvil.com had the pleasure of interviewing guitarist Mathieu St-Amour, of the band Chariots of the Gods, who just released their new album, Tides of War. Below Mathieu talks about the album, the band and so much more. Thanks so much for taking the time to talk to HearEvil.com the heavy music social network run by women and directed toward women about all the exciting things going on with Chariots of the Gods.  Congratulations your new album Tides of War. Can you tell us about the concept behind the album? MS:  It’s not so much a concept album but more an album with a global theme; war. Each song can stand on it’s own but is linked to the others by this common theme. The title ”Tides of War” basically represents humanity’s need for war. Like the ocean’s tides, it’s an endless cycle. There’s always conflict somewhere. How was the writing and recording process for the new album? MS: The writing process of the album probably started not long after our first EP “Reverence” was finished, so that’s about 2 years ago. Some songs on the album are older than others, like “Revillusion(1905)”, while some were last minute additions, like “Collapse of an Empire”. The way things usually go in the writing process is that I write the whole song and structure it in a program called “GuitarPro”. I write all the music and then I sent it off to the guys and they learn/tweak their parts and then we jam it out together and from there the song evolves in it’s final form. As for lyrics, on “Reverence” I...
HAIL OF THE WEEK – SUNLESS DAZE

HAIL OF THE WEEK – SUNLESS DAZE

Support: Today’s Hail of The Week belongs to a band called Sunless Daze from Long Island, NY. The lineup which features Jeremy Scott – Bass, Mike Citro – Drums, Doug Nien – Guitar and Mike Nien on lead vocals and guitar released their full length album Deep Roots in 2006 that put them on the map. Their rock/metal sound led them to play with Dokken and Britny Fox as they received airplay on FM and internet radio stations across the country. The track listing for Deep Roots is: You Hope Alone Again Alive Answers Concrete Skies Where We Stand Does She Care She Livin’ Inside Your Box You Can Save Me Now What Do You Want Hangin’ By A Thread A friend of mine had recommended Sunless Daze to me and needless to say I was hooked from the first song. I heard many different influences and thought of different artists/bands that they remind me of in each song. Check them out I am sure you won’t be disappointed. HADES SINGER ANNOUNCES BAND LINEUP FOR HEADBANGERS OPEN AIR SHOW

Support: Hades lead singer Alan Tecchio released the following statement regarding the lineup for the Hades set for the Headbangers Open Air Festival this summer, July 26-28 in Brande-Hörnerkirchen, Germany. Alan said via his Facebook page: “It is official, I now have a full band lined up for the Headbanger’s Open  Air festival in Germany this July… Since Hades cannot actually play,  we are billing the show as: “A Night Of Hades with Alan Tecchio &  Friends.” “Headlining the Friday night show will be: Me-Vocals Kevin Bolembach-Bass (Non Fiction, Hades) Jack Frost-Guitar (Seven Witches, Savatage) Sean Tarr-Guitar (TNA) & Ron Lipnicki-Drums (Overkill, Hades).” A few weeks ago, Hades guitarist and founder Dan Lorenzo issued a statement that he would not be able to perform at the festival and in turn some of the remaining members of the band also chose not to participate in the show as well.  Since the promoters had been advertising the show for many months, Alan wanted to honor their commitment and not disappoint the fans. The setlist will consist of music from the first two Hades albums Resisting Success and If At First You Don’t Succeed. Check out the interview below: Thanks Chris for taking the time to talk to HearEvil.com the heavy music social network run by women and directed toward women about all the exciting things going on with Six Feet Under! You guys have a lot of exciting things coming up that I know your fans will want to hear about. CB: Yeah we are coming out with a new album at the end of May (May 22nd) which is our 9th studio album called Undead. We’re really looking forward to the release. It’s been a lot of work putting that album together and it’s one of the best albums that I’ve ever been involved with personally so I‘m real happy for that. Can you tell me about the concept and/or themes behind the album? What can fans expect from the new album? CB: Fans will definitely find a revamped and very focused Six Feet Under and as far as the music goes more intense more, more dynamic, but still holding true to what hardcore is and that‘s aggressive death metal. I think the themes lyrically, fans will find are the same subject matter as I’ve covered but in a different maybe more fascinating way. Recently there have been some lineup changes in Six Feet Under, did the new lineup affect the writing process for the new record? CB: Well not the actual process. I still go about my area...
AXL ROSE APOLOGIZES TO CLEVELAND AND EXPLAINS HIS DECISION FURTHER

AXL ROSE APOLOGIZES TO CLEVELAND AND EXPLAINS HIS DECISION FURTHER

Support: Axl Rose has once again written an open letter to his fans regarding his decision not to attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony this past weekend and ended the letter with a request for the press to run the full letter.  He wrote: To: Cleveland, Ohio, Guns N’ Roses Fans and everyone who’s shown support for my decision regarding the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. I seriously didn’t plan on or expect the overwhelmingly positive response and public support for my decision regarding the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. With such a generous outpouring of solidarity from fans, media outlets, writers and other artists, I’m truly humbled, blown away and unbelievably relieved! To be honest, I thought it would go the other way and was just hoping to weather the storm. As I said, I sincerely didn’t want to disappoint anyone. It gets old being the outlaw even if “it’s only rock and roll”. It took a lot of focus and soul searching to be sincere and informative while making a genuine effort to be somewhat diplomatic. We made, what I feel, are real efforts to learn about the Hall and the Board, spoke as I said with the president and various members, and though I inducted Elton John and Bernie Taupin in ’94 saying something to the effect of “I’m learning what the Hall’s about…” I still don’t exactly know or understand what the Hall is or how or why it makes money, where the money goes, who chooses the voters and why anyone or this board decides who, out of all the artists in...
