Former DEATH Bassist Scott Clendenin Passes Away At 47 Years Old.

Support:   Yesterday the metal world lost another legend, as former DEATH bassist, Scott Clendenin, passed away at 47 years old. While no cause of death has been revealed yet, Eric Greif, the manager of Death posted this message on their Official Facebook page: “With a sense of shock I’m letting all of you know of the passing today of former DEATH bassist Scott Clendenin. Scott had some health challenges in the last few years but was optimistic about his prospects. Of course he was the skilled player on The Sound of Perseverance DEATH album, and recently participated in two DTA live runs, in 2012 and 2013, including the highlight of his acoustic guitar in a poignant rendition of Voice of the Soul. Our thoughts go out to Scott’s family at this difficult time.” It goes without saying that DEATH was one of the most important bands in the history of our genre. “The Sound of Perseverance” album completely changed the game in 1998, and Scott truly shined on that record. His bass playing skills were punishing, yet clean as hell, and while Chuck Schuldiner is rightfully praised for the album, Scott Clendenin definitely brought a new level of bass playing to the masses, and for that, we will forever remember him. Rest in Peace Scott, and thank you! Support: Have you seen these yet? Gene Hoglan Is Now Behind The Kit For The Remainder Of The “Death To All” Tour!

Support: The latest Death DTA (aka Death To All/Death DTA Tours) kicked off earlier this week with support from Obituary, Massacre and Rivers Of Nihil, and it seems as if current Death (DTA) drummer, Sean Reinert, has had to leave the tour due to health reasons. The band released this statment: “North American Tour News: with regrets, Sean Reinert had to leave the tour today due to health reasons. We wish Sean all the best and that his health will bounce back quickly!” While that is a huge bummer that we won’t get to see Sean behind the kit, guess who’s filling in? THE ATOMIC CLOCK! That’s right! Gene Hoglan will take his place starting tonight in Seattle, and finish the tour with the band. As we all know, Gene was in Death from 1993-1995, and he’s one of the sickest drummers to ever live, so the shows will be just as good as it was originally intended to be! The remaining dates are below! BE THERE! 11/18 Seattle, WA – Studio Seven 11/19 Vancouver, BC – Rickshaw Theater (feat. Untimely Demise) 11/21 Calgary, AB – MacEwan Ballroom (feat. Remembering Cliff Burton 28 Years Later!

Remembering Cliff Burton 28 Years Later!

Support: On this day back in 1986, the world tragically lost Cliff Burton, who was easily one of the greatest musicians to ever pick up an instrument. For myself personally, Cliff was the first reason I ever picked up a bass guitar. From the albums to the “Cliff ‘Em All” DVD, I had never seen anyone play the bass like that, and we still haven’t to this very day. To put it simply, he was a magician on the bass. His style and technique was one of the most impressive displays the world has ever seen, and I only wish I had the chance to see him live. From talking with people that did, he was one of the strongest performers they had ever seen on stage, and it’s a true shame that we didn’t see his whole potential live out due to “black ice” on a Swedish road. Even though it’s 28 years since he passed, his legacy is still as strong as ever. Whether it was his attitude or his skills, he left a mark on our scene that will never be erased. So to celebrate his life and memory, let’s take a look back to 2011, when members of Metallica and his father shared hilarious stories about Cliff at the 30th Anniversary show in California, plus live footage to prove how truly incredible he was. RIP CLIFF. You are missed. Support: Have you seen these yet? HAPPY BIRTHDAY CLIFF BURTON – REST IN PEACE Listen To Cliff Burton’s Solo Bass Tracks On Metallica Classics On His Birthday! “NOLA: Life, Death, & Heavy Blues from the Bayou” Episode One Is Here!

Support: The good people at Noisey have debuted the first episode of “NOLA: Life, Death and Heavy Blues from the Bayou,” and it’s absolutely incredible! Here’s the official description of the first episode: “New Orleans native Phil Anselmo exports his style to Dallas band Pantera, thereby changing the landscape for metal in the 90s. Meanwhile, a visit from the Melvins to the New Orleans area would change the landscape for metal as we know it, with Kirk Windstein of the band Shell Shock was discovering that slower was, for him, heavier.” As we previously mentioned, “NOLA: Life, Death and Heavy Blues from the Bayou” will feature appearances Philip H. Anselmo, Mike “IX” Williams, Jimmy Bower, Kirk Windstein, Pepper Keenan, Sammy Duet and others, and the legends will discuss various topics from music to New Orleans to social issues and more!
