RONNIE JAMES DIO – HAPPY BIRTHDAY – FROM THE VAULT

Support: In today’s From The Vault, we honor the life and legacy of  Ronald James Padavona, better known as Ronnie James Dio, who would have been 72 this Thursday. It’s still hard to believe that it’s been 5 years since Ronnie passed away in 2010, at the age of 67 from stomach cancer. His passing is a tremendous loss to the metal world, but his legacy will be remembered forever. Ronnie began his music career in 1957 with a band called The Vegas Kings which Ronnie started out playing bass in. Eventually Ronnie began singing and changed the band name, as well as his name to Ronnie Dio after mobster Johnny Dio. In 1967, after his previous band disbanded, Ronnie formed Electric Elves, later shortened to Elf and recorded three studio albums while securing the opening act slot with Deep Purple. Ronnie caught the ear of Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and recruited Ronnie for his new band Rainbow after splitting with Deep Purple. Rainbow released their debut album in 1975 called Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow. However after releasing two more albums as well as a live album, Dio and Blackmore split due to creative differences, as Blackmore was looking to take Rainbow in a more commercial direction. In 1979, Ronnie replaced Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath and the band subsequently released Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules which put Sabbath back on the map. During the mixing of Live Evil, tensions erupted causing Dio to quit and form his own band, Dio. The band released their debut album Holy Diver in 1983. Dio went on to subsequently release 10 albums and although members changed over the years, Ronnie was always touring and recording....
Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler And Bill Ward Accepted A Lifetime Achievement Award Together In London!

Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler And Bill Ward Accepted A Lifetime Achievement Award Together In London!

Support: Is this a promising sign of things to come? HOPEFULLY! Black Sabbath legends, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward were together this morning to accept the Lifetime Achievement award at this year’s Ivor Novello Awards in London! This is not a rumor just to get hits, check out articles at BBC.com and Lancashire Telegraph for more proof, as well as the photo below! The three legends were back together, and that rules! As we all know, Ozzy Osbourne revealed to Esquire Magazine last year that Black Sabbath would be recording one more studio album, and doing a final tour. Fans everywhere hoped for a reunion of all original members, but Bill Ward quickly made it clear why that wouldn’t be happening, Ozzy responded, and then it became a back and forth that just depressed us all. We all want the original lineup back together for one tour, and it’s obvious that these three icons get along, so hopefully they can mend whatever is still pressing between Ozzy and Bill, and we can have the dream sendoff to the fathers of heavy metal! It wouldn’t be the same without Bill behind the kit! Stay tuned! Ozzy Osbourne Responds To Bill Ward!

Support:   Wow, this just got worse. A few days after Bill Ward posted a statement on Black Sabbath rumors and his relationship with Ozzy (read it here), the legendary front man has responded, and it’s not good news for anyone expecting a Black Sabbath reunion anytime soon. Here’s what Ozzy said on his Facebook page: “I never wanted to discuss this in a public forum but Bill’s statements left me no option to but to respond honestly. Wow Bill, What the fuck are you on about? I cannot apologize for comments or opinions I may have made about you in the press during Sabbath’s “13” album and tour– physically, you knew you were fucked. Tony, Geezer and myself didn’t think you could have done a two hour set with a drum solo every night, so we made the decision to move on. With Tony’s condition we felt that time was not on our side. Bill, stop this smokescreen about an “unsignable contract” and let’s be honest. Deep down inside you knew you weren’t capable of doing the album and a 16 month tour. Unfortunately for you, our instincts were correct as you were in hospital several times during 2013. Your last hospitalization was for a shoulder surgery that you now say you’ve only just recovered from. This would have meant that our world tour would have been canceled. So how is all of this my fault? Stop playing the victim and be honest with yourself and our fans. Bill, we go back a long way, let’s stop this now before it gets out of hand. God bless you....
Bill Ward Speaks On Black Sabbath Rumors, His Solo Album And More!

Bill Ward Speaks On Black Sabbath Rumors, His Solo Album And More!

Support:   Last year Ozzy Osbourne revealed to Esquire Magazine that Black Sabbath would be recording one more studio album, and doing a final tour in 2015. Even though 2013’s “13” was an album loved by everyone, there are still many metal fans out there that would love the final album to include Bill Ward. Ozzy himself even admitted that he “hoped Bill would return” for the record, but that doesn’t seem likely from Bill’s latest statement. Here’s what he released today on his Facebook page: “Dear Friends, I hope you’re well and in good spirits. I have not made any public statements regarding my relationship with Black Sabbath since February 2012. Today, I want to address that relationship in this formal statement. Thank you. I have neither severed nor discontinued my relationship with Black Sabbath, however, since 2012, the often inaccurate statements about me as a person and as a musician have caused me to be guarded and be especially detached emotionally and spiritually from Ozzy. His rhetoric above all has brought me the most discord. The continuing misguided information about me has established a necessity on my part to confront these issues. And now, with the imminent release of a new Bill Ward Band album, and the flurry of rumors about new Sabbath projects, I feel it appropriate to speak in a truthful and an un-cynical way. There is always speculation about a true, original Sabbath lineup for the next tour or record. With a sad heart, I have to say I will not participate in any musical undertakings until a righting of the wrongs spoken against...
Ozzy Osbourne “Hopes” Bill Ward Will Return To Black Sabbath!

Ozzy Osbourne “Hopes” Bill Ward Will Return To Black Sabbath!

Support: Earlier this year we learned the awesome news that the almighty Black Sabbath WILL be recording a new album and will be touring again in the future! After the success of “13,” we were all hoping that they wouldn’t be done, and Ozzy has confirmed that they aren’t in a new interview with Esquire Magazine! Below are some excerpts, including a very positive answer about the possible return of Bill Ward! On the future of the band: “With the Black Sabbath thing, the record company wants us to do one more record, and we’ve decided to do one more tour, and at the end of the tour we just disband and I go back to doing my solo stuff.” On how he’d like to go out with Black Sabbath: “If this is Black Sabbath’s last hurrah, then we’ll have ended it on an up note rather than when I left in 1979 and everybody was fucked up on one thing or another and I was marked out as being the worst, you know. It ended on a bad note, so… The only thing sad about it is I hope Bill Ward can get his stuff together to do this because… one of the biggest things I’m proud of in my life was that Black Sabbath wasn’t a band that was created by some business mogul in London or New York. That we were four guys who had a great idea and it worked from record one.” After Bill Ward left the band over compensation, they went on the huge “13” tour without him, but it would only be...
BILL WARD DRUM ART IS COMING!

BILL WARD DRUM ART IS COMING!

Support: Ever since the announcement came that he would not be a part of the new Black Sabbath album, “13,” Bill Ward fans have made their opinions well known. Whether or not you hated or loved the new Sabbath, life has gone on, and we can only hope that the true original lineup will get back together in the future. Even though we’ll have to wait to see Ward behind the kit, that hasn’t stopped him from staying busy! The legendary drummer is set to debut a groundbreaking collection of “fine art created from rhythm” on August 1st! More information on the project will soon be revealed, but for now we have a video preview of his art and one photo below! For future updates, head over to BillWardDrumArt.com! BLACK SABBATH ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM TITLE

BLACK SABBATH ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM TITLE

Support: Legendary metallers Black Sabbath have announced “13” as the title of their new album to be released this coming June. This is the first Black Sabbath album with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978 but minus original drummer Bill Ward. Ward who had expressed publicly his dissatisfaction with contractual issues declined rejoining the band so as not to give Sabbath fans the wrong impression. The remaining members of Sabbath were also upset with Bill’s public statements and when asked Tony Iommi eluded that while they love Bill, it was time to move forward and maybe there would be an opportunity to play together in the future. Brad Wilk from Rage Against The Machine laid down drum tracks in the studio and Ozzy, Geezer and Iommi recorded many of the tracks in Los Angeles with legendary producer, Rick Rubin. The band have scheduled shows in New Zeland, Australia and Japan with more dates to be announced. BILL WARD RESPONDS TO GEEZER’S STATEMENT

BILL WARD RESPONDS TO GEEZER’S STATEMENT

Support: Bill Ward has posted his response to Geezer’s statement regarding the upcoming Black Sabbath tour on his official website. The statement reads below: Dear Sabbath Fans and Musicians, I have read Geezer’s statement of May 19, 2012 titled “Heavy Heart.”  Out of respect for the Birmingham gig, I wanted to wait 24 hours before releasing this statement.  There are some points he brought up which I want to respond to. 1)  I had indeed notified Ozzy, Tony and Geezer, well before my first public statement, that I was having contractual difficulties. 2)  I came out into a public forum to be accountable to the fans primarily, and to say at a public level there’s a problem.  The band members stopped talking and corresponding with me some time ago, with the exception of a nice letter from Tony on my birthday.  Prior to that, Geezer and I were corresponding, but that stopped abruptly in late February after I emailed a specific question to him. 3)  In my statement of May 15, I clearly stated I would play Birmingham for free.  That was not a problem – charity or otherwise. 4)  My Download fee was not an extravagant amount.  Originally, when Download was part of a full tour, I had asked for a decent fee.  More recently, as we were negotiating just Download/Birmingham and Lollapalooza, I told my attorney that I would accept the proposed small Download fee, but there were other parts of the offer that were unsatisfactory. I will continue to be honest and respectful towards the band and our fans.  I will also confront any untruths about me, and any fault finding...
