Today we take a trip back to 1982 and the eighth album by the Scorpions Blackout released on EMI Records in Germany and Mercury Records in the USA.
During the recording of the album, vocalist Klaus Meine had lost his voice and had to undergo surgery on his vocal cords. Unsure of wether he would be able to complete the recording of the album, The Scorpions recorded demos with Don Dokken, however the tracks were never used. The album cover which depicts Rudolf Schenker portraying artist Gottfried Helnwein’s self portrait of a screaming bandaged man blinded by forks has made this one of the more popular Scorpions t-shirts to date.
The lineup for the Blackout album includes: Klaus Meine – vocals, Mattias Jabs and Rudolf Schenker – guitars, Francis Buchhoz – bass and Herman Rarebell – drums. The album has been certified both gold and platinum and reached #10 on the Billboard 200 chart in 1982.
