The first time I saw Ruppthritis perform, their lead singer was mysteriously absent. You’d never know it though, by the way the rest of the band held down the fort. The best way I could describe Ruppthritis is “stoner thrash,” which as far as I know is not an actual genre but really ought to be, if this band is any indication.
Ruppthritis formed in January 2007 and their lineup has remained constant ever since. Unsurprisingly, their influences are among my favorites (Testament, Kreator, Exodus, etc.), and they’ve opened and played with quite a few popular thrash bands over the years. They released their self-titled debut album in 2010, and just last week they played at Trash Bar in Brooklyn alongside Eyes Like Cyanide (who you regular readers may remember), Edge Of Existence, Deathalizer, and The Von Frankensteins.
As soon as I saw them for the first time, I immediately wanted to know when they’d play here again. I’m sad to say that there don’t seem to be any upcoming tour dates anywhere, let alone my native NYC, but the band have been gigging consistently since they were founded so I have no doubt that they’ll pop up somewhere very soon.
