I almost feel like I’m cheating by giving this week’s Hail to Lies Beneath, since they’ve been around and well-known in the NYC Tri-State area for quite a while now. The band was founded back in 2005 by guitarists Ben Serr and Jared Zipes, and has existed with its current lineup since 2007, so they are not exactly newbies in the scene. Before their lineup was complete, they released their first LP The Eidolon and played various local shows in Long Island to boost their popularity.

In the years following their first release Lies Beneath became one of the more prolific supporters in the local metal scene, sharing the stage with bands like Alice Cooper, Kittie, God Forbid, and Death Angel. Last year they released their second album Death Of An American Dream, and you can listen to snippets of it in the Media section of the band’s official website. The sound toes the line between thrash and death, and almost reminds me of Alice In Chains in some areas. It’s really interesting, and anything but predictable.

If you are or can get anywhere near Queens, NY tonight, you should definitely see this band perform at Arena. The band goes on at 10:15pm, so there’s still plenty of time to get your ass over there! Check out the video below to get a taste of Lies Beneath’s awesome live energy:
